Addressing health issues as medical and development challenges

DE HEALTH’s 6 Key Areas of Work: A Response to Africa’s Healthcare Challenges

Sub-Saharan Africa faces immense healthcare challenges, including preventable diseases, inadequate healthcare, a shortage of healthcare workers, and limited access to facilities.

DE HEALTH responds to these challenges with a multifaceted and transformative approach that focuses on the following six key areas:

Delivering Innovative Healthcare to All Patients in State-of-the-Art Multi-specialty Hospitals

DE HEALTH will create world-class multispecialty hospitals with a focus on patient-centered care.

This includes community involvement and co-ownership, sustainable “green hospital” designs, and the utilization of advanced technologies like telemedicine and paperless systems to enhance patient experience.

Offering an Enabling Environment for Transformative Medical Education:

DE HEALTH utilizes task-based and competency-based training programs, and AI-powered training simulators, virtual reality (VR) platforms, and hi-fidelity manikins.

In addition to competency-based clinical and surgical training, DE HEALTH will also provide supplementary “Soft Skills” training in leadership, management, communication, advocacy, and team building.

Targeted sub-Saharan Africa-Focused Research:

DE HEALTH will promote applied clinical and operational research in Sub-Saharan Africa to find “Africa-specific solutions” to “Africa’s health problems”.

DE HEALTH will also train budding African scientists and researchers and establish public health and research training units to test innovative solutions and new technologies.

Vocational and Professional Development

DE HEALTH will provide a range of innovative short-term training programs, including career development planning, skills upgrade programs using sophisticated simulators, and immersive learning experiences in areas like emergency care and first aid.

DE HEALTH Agribusiness Venture

This original DE HEALTH initiative aims to improve agricultural productivity, enhance food security and nutrition, generate income and employment, and fight child malnutrition in target communities.

It will also supply food to DE HEALTH medical centers and generate income for charitable work, through its own charity, “That Every Life may Count”.

School Screening for Uncorrected Refractive Errors (URE)

This pilot project in Cameroon aims to remove a barrier to quality education by screening school children for vision and hearing impairment and providing glasses and hearing aids as needed.

Teachers in the selected schools will also be tested for presbyopia and provided with appropriate reading glasses.

In the future, DE HEALTH plans to add screening for hearing impairment and oral health and dental disorders.

TELMC: The Complementary, Humanitarian Arm Of DE HEALTH

That Every Life May Count (TELMC) is the social, humanitarian, and development arm of DE HEALTH, dedicated to ensuring equal access to quality healthcare for all.

TELMC supports DE HEALTH’s healthcare services and promotes healthy lifestyles and community development initiatives.

TELMC’s four main areas of work are:

Healthcare Service Delivery

TELMC supports DE HEALTH by ensuring equal access to healthcare services for all.

This includes financial assistance, leveraging telemedicine and community outreach, forging long-term partnerships, and establishing a network of visiting healthcare professional experts, also known as “Visiting Faculty”.

School Health Activities

TELMC promotes and supports systematic and nation-wide screening for vision and hearing impairment in schools, including providing glasses and hearing devices to those in need.

TELMC also provides nutrition education and support to improve the nutritional status of school children.

Child Health & Survival

TELMC promotes and supports the full range of 0 to 5 clinics activities in DE HEALTH facilities, including promotive, preventative, and immunization services.

This includes establishing demo nutrition clinics to promote better nutrition among children, especially those from disadvantaged families.

Non-Medical Areas of Work

TELMC promotes and supports local crop farming and fish farming to improve nutrition.

TELMC also partners with organizations to provide vocational training and ongoing support for street children and offers scholarships to exceptionally bright high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
